Burum (meaning 'yeast' in Welsh) are a truly unique band that fuse both the Welsh folk tradition and jazz.
The band's music combines a deep respect for the original folk tunes themselves with the flexibility and dynamics of jazz improvisation - beautiful, melancholic melodies are performed alongside fiery solos and deep grooves.
Led by renowned Welsh trumpeter Tomos Williams,Burum includes virtuoso Welsh folk star and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Rimes on bag-pipes and flutes - which instantly places Burum's sound outside of any category or specific genre. Jazz pipes? Yes! Jazz-folk? Yes! Folk-jazz? Yes!
In 2027 Burum will be on a tour of Wales celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band. During that time Burum have developed a telepathic understanding as the pipes and the standard jazz front line of trumpet and sax bring real emotion to the powerful Welsh melodies.
Burum includes some of Wales's most creative jazz and folk musicians: mixing these ingredients together creates the unique and extraordinary band sound that is Burum.
