Company Residencies

We support Welsh, Wales-based and UK companies to develop innovative, dynamic, story-led shows.

Our residencies provide space in our building to explore, learn and grow – whether running research and development on a new production, using new theatrical techniques, getting the seed of an idea on its feet or even a scratch performance in a supportive environment. In addition we share our greatest asset – our team. Theatr Clwyd has an experienced, knowledgeable and friendly team of theatre professionals across many disciplines – from directing and dramaturgy, to sound, lighting and marketing. This resource is shared to help build the skills and experience of both established and emerging artists. Many of our residencies have led to production either at Theatr Clwyd or with/in many other theatres around the UK.

This programme is not currently open to new participants (but when it is we’ll put out an open call through our social media channel and the many theatre and writers groups in Wales and the UK). If you have any questions please drop us a line at artists@theatrclwyd.com.

Missmanaged Theatre Company

"In November 2017 Missmanaged Theatre were welcomed into Theatr Clwyd’s studio space to perform two focus groups of The Edinburgh Test, a play that explores the struggles and triumphs of four new mothers. Our audience was made up of Mothers of all ages from the area as well as trauma counsellors and nurses. After performing the play, which seeks to start a conversation on postnatal mental health, our audience were incredibly open in sharing their stories and providing feedback to help us create our final production."

Wildcard

"It was brilliant to be able to have a creative and open space to really focus our energies into writing music and devising for our show; to be able to make as much noise as we needed! Theatr Clwyd were so supportive. We were given loads of advice for our future in terms of marketing, budgeting and how we can enable our show to have a future life after Edinburgh."

Snippet Theatre Company

"We were over the moon when Theatr Clwyd agreed to have us work there in February 2017 to Research and Develop our show. It has been very useful to have the support of Theatr Clwyd who have provided rehearsal and critical feedback for the project. We were welcomed with open arms and felt very inspired by the enormous studio space that we were provided with."
