Steph Hughes
What instruments do you play?
Trombone & Piano
How did you get into music?
I grew up in Northop, so I was used to hearing the Village Brass Band. I was so excited on the day we got to choose an instrument to start learning.
What has been your favourite musical experience?
The first time I sat in a full rehearsal as a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra. I remember someone saying nothing would prepare me for the sound and the feel of the orchestra and they were right, it was an amazing moment!
What do you like to do outside of teaching?
As a freelance Trombonist I play in lots of different ensembles. I have two lovely little boys who keep me very busy.
What is a fun fact about you?
I always wanted to learn the Cornet but there was only a Trombone left. I am so glad they ran out of Cornets that day!
Do you have any ties to Flintshire?
I grew up in Flintshire and was a part of the Music Service. I played in county band and sang in county choir.
