Access Community Group
The magic of theatre should be enjoyed by everyone.
Theatr Clwyd is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment within the theatre and help is needed to shape the milestone for the theatre moving back into the building in 2025.
We are looking for individuals who are Deaf, Disabled and/or Neurodivergent DDN that are passionate about accessibility with the arts and who can play a crucial role in shaping this vision with Theatr Clwyd. Deaf, Disabled and/or Neurodivergent DDN people have first hand experience and understanding of the barriers faced by disabled people in accessing theatre.
Partnerships with disabled-run organisations can also bring a vital insight to disabled peoples lived experiences and if you are an organisation who supports Deaf, Disabled and/or Neurodivergent people you can also apply for this call out.
If you are a Deaf, Disabled, and/or Neurodivergent DDN person or an organisation who works closely with DDN people and are interested in the arts then we would love to hear from you and have a conversation about how to get involved.
Vision for the group
- By participating, individuals and/or organisations can share their experiences of accessing Theatr Clwyd and how we can improve things for the future of the Theatre.
- This might be helping us on how to book tickets, how to move through spaces, how to make participatory activities like workshops more accessible, help with best recruitment practices, how do we market our work (these are only examples). As a group we would love to come up with an agenda and themes that resonate with you as a group. This is very much a people centred approach.
- These meetings can help track progress and allow for continuous dialogue about accessibility challenges within Theatr Clwyd company. This means that all senior leadership team will come to one meeting a year so that all aspects of the theatre can be discussed and hopefully improved.
- You will have access to our Theatr Clwyd on stage productions and events: Watching shows, coming to rehearsals when appropriate and getting to know some of the theatre making processes. We believe that it's important to share how things are made, and the process we currently use and those we plan to introduce. Some sessions will be focussed on front of house or backstage – all aspects of the theatre!)
- We will be having discussion and share good practise that can be helpful to create more accessible spaces and feeling within the theatre for the future.
