Theatr Clwyd has an ambitious Arts and Health programme to support people using the arts with their health and wellbeing. We partner with the local health board and health charities to develop bespoke projects that support people’s mental and physical health.

Here are a few of our projects:

Arts from the Armchair

Brings people living with dementia and early on-set memory loss and their carers together to take part in fun workshops, away from a clinical setting. The sessions use games to stimulate cognitive muscles before the group takes part in activities that take place across the building. They have created masks with our wardrobe teams, gone backstage on the set of Home, I’m Darling and painted some of the set of Mold Riots with our scenic team.

Supported by Lyan Packaging and Arts & Business Cymru.

Dance, Drama and Music for Neurological Conditions

Started during the pandemic this group meets online and participants join from across Wales. The group puts together dance sequences using their favourite things as inspiration such as holidays and music. Their dance moves are accompanied by a live musician who improvises to their movement.

Singing for Soul

Created to support people living with chronic mental health conditions, participants are referred by the local health board. The group has commented on the fantastic benefits that they receive from attending including the friendships they have made.

“It’s not medicine as such but it’s still medicine to me as it’s joyful and that’s the main thing for me.”

A donation to Theatr Clwyd helps us to continue our Arts and Health programme and ensure that more people living with health conditions are supported with the arts.
