Production photo from Rent (2016). Foreground: two people stand facing each other holding hands. They look happy. Snow is falling upon them. In the background, lit by blue stage lights, there are 10 other cast members dotted around the set, facing forwards and singing.

World Class Theatre

Led by the best artists of each generation - George Roman, Toby Robertson, Helena Kaut-Howson, Terry Hands and now Artistic Director Tamara Harvey - with an alumni of internationally-acclaimed actors and creatives (including Sir Anthony Hopkins, Katherine Parkinson and Rufus Norris), our artistic vision and dynamism showcases the best of a nation.

We are a major theatrical producer and cultural exporter. We are Wales’ largest producing theatre, our work travels the UK, raising the profile, confidence, pride and status of Welsh theatre.

One of only four theatres in the UK to build sets, make costumes, paint scenery and create props in house, we are protecting essential theatre making skills to ensure we can push theatrical boundaries to create stunning shows from the seed of a writer’s imagination.

Creating fabulous costumes in house means we can make better, high-quality, bespoke items (that hold their own in the National Theatre or West End). Other theatres always say how jealous they are of us, of the skills we have, the quality we produce, and our creative flair and ability - I’m proud to be part of that.
Debbie in our wardrobe team helped make costumes for our Olivier Award-winning, West End show Home, I’m Darling.
