Troy Marcus Richards
I’m Troy. Born in Birmingham. To a family of Aston Villa fanatics.
I joined my local theatre school in 2012. Then I became involved with The Birmingham REP. Initially with their 18-25 group before I joined it’s all black male theatre company: Lightpost. We explored classics and devised new stories. My favourite play to date is one a devised piece centred on The Windrush. Through these discoveries of text and being given the freedom during rehearsals to play & explore, I look back fondly.
After that I was accepted into the National Youth Theatre via means of their EPIC Stages course; to date, I have performed in a couple of plays with them. Through these connections at NYT I was fortunate enough to receive sponsorship to help with the financial burden of Drama School.
With mentorship and care from my friends at Les Enfants Terribles & Wildchild Arts, I graduated from East 15 drama school in October, with a Master of Arts.
When I am not on stage, you will find me in the terraces at Villa Park; or over the park walking the dog or writing scripts for TV at home, usually accompanied by the sound of some UB40.
