Carl Hutchinson returns to north Wales, visiting Theatr Clwyd for one date only. Hutchinson is back with a brand new show. If you’ve seen the Geordie in action before you know exactly what type of amazing night you’re in for. If you haven’t seen Carl, prepare to be dazzled by the UK comedy scene’s best kept secret. We sat down with Carl to find out more about what to expect:
We are so excited to have you here in Mold. Are you looking forward to visiting north Wales? We hear the audiences are the best.
I’m really excited to come back too, when I announced the tour I had loads of people asking for a Wrexham date, I’m really happy we were able to sort something out that was the best of both worlds. A new place for me (Mold) and a place that’s not too far from Wrexham at all. The audiences are always well up for the show too, it’s a place I always want to make a point of playing on every tour.
For people who might not have seen you before, what can they expect?
Think I’ll take the easy route here and let you know what previous audience members have said…
“Absolutely brilliant comedian. Saw him for the first time when he opened for Chris Ramsey and was so impressed. Did not disappoint at all tonight and will definitely be booking tickets to see him again” *****
“Absolutely fantastic show! So funny!” *****
“The atmosphere was fantastic. Carl is hilarious and would make anyone laugh” *****
“Outstanding night as always with Carl” *****
“Carl was brilliant! Haven't laughed that much in ages! Definitely go see him!” *****
“Carl Hutchinson is as always fantastic” *****
“Carl was as funny as ever with jokes we could all relate too” *****
You did a huge 87 date run in 2022, how do you keep going?
It’s easy when you have a mortgage, you keep going otherwise your house will be repossessed. It’s been the quickest turn around for sure. The last tour show was in November 2022 and by Jan 2023 I was previewing the next. I guess it’s just the quest to be as good as you can be. I’m very fortunate to have a loyal fan base who come to see me year in, year out. So I feel as much as they expect a new show from me, I expect it from myself. Stops me getting lazy too.
Best and worst gigs/moments on stage?
It might have to be Christchurch on the Chris Ramsey tour a few years back. I completely spoilt the end of my set. The audience were great, too great in fact, they were letting me get away with murder. I was so relaxed and comfortable on stage right at the end seconds before the last words were due to come out of my mouth I heard an audience member break wind. Rather than be professional about it and crack on to save the momentum, I couldn’t stop myself, the line went…
“Do you ever wake up so last you just—DID SOMEONE JUST PUMP?!’
Silence. That person knows who they are, they did pump and did not admit it. That’s on you, not me. Weirdly that was a best and worst moment simultaneously.
How would you like someone to describe your show?
As the best god damn comedian that ever lived.
