A reading from two of Wales’ finest poets. Gillian Clarke, the National Poet of Wales 2008-2016 and Deryn Rees-Jones, a poet, editor and literary critic.
Gillian Clarke, National Poet of Wales 2008-2016, President of Tŷ Newydd, the Welsh Writers Centre. In 2010 she was awarded the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry, in 2012 the Wilfred Owen Award. Se-lected Poems, Picador, was published in 2016, and Zoology, Carcanet, in 2017. Her version/translation of the 7th century Welsh poem, Y Gododdin, appears from Faber in September 2020.
Deryn Rees-Jones is a poet, editor and literary critic. Most recently she has turned to writing about art, and her book about the Portuguese artist, Paula Rego: The Art of Story, was recently published by Thames & Hudson. Her selected poems, What It’s Like to Be Alive, was published in 2016 and was a PBS Special Commendation. Her new collection of poems, Erato, a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, was published in 2019. An exhibition of text and image, The Errant Muse, with the artist Charlotte Hodes, is currently on show at the Victoria Gallery & Museum, Liverpool from mid-November until the end of March. She is the editor of the Pavilion Poetry list.
