Schools Festival 2019
17 June - 20 June 2019
This year Flintshire Schools in Performance and Flintshire Dance Fest are combining to create a new festival to celebrate our young people’s creativity in dance, drama, music and visual arts.
AN EVENING FULL OF MASTERCLASSES IN THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES
Theatr Clwyd are holding an evening full of inspirational workshops led by professional artists in the following creative industries for young people aged between 14-25.
Do you love dancing? This masterclass will give you a taste of what it would be like to follow a career in dance and what is involved in training to become a professional dancer.
Enjoy drama and working with people? Get a taste of what applied theatre is and how you can link your love of drama and working with people. LIPA will host a masterclass in applied theatre with more of a focus on being a drama facilitator and how to work with community groups in a creative and theatrical way.
Love acting? Enhance your acting skills and gain an insight of what it might be like to train as a professional actor. RWCMD will be hosting an acting masterclass where one of their experienced tutors will teach acting technique for theatre.
Interested in technical theatre? This is a unique opportunity to learn from Theatr Clwyd’s sound technicians on how to operate sound systems in a theatre setting.
Love art? Why not take up this unique opportunity to spend a couple of hours with Theatr Clwyd’s scenic team who will teach you techniques that they use to make sets for our productions. An opportunity to get messy and have a go at creating a piece of set.
A creative writing class with one of Theatr Clwyd’s Resident Writers.
Actors and sets might steal the show, but only if they’re well lit! This is a superb opportunity to learn about lighting from one of Theatr Clwyd’s producing team.
This class focuses on the development process of costumes for theatre.
Schools Festival Performances
Flintshire Primary Schools will be performing in our first Dance Night, part of Theatr Clwyd Schools Festival. Each school has created their own dance piece on the theme of ‘Discovering Home’ to coincide with the National Refugee Week.
This performance is a culmination of a 9-week project with boys from 6 Flintshire Primary Schools that New Dance have been working with. Professional dance company, Company Chameleon have also worked with the groups and will perform alongside them in the final piece of the evening.
As part of National Refugee Week, this performance is a culmination of a project on the theme of ‘Discovering Home’ where Theatr Clwyd have collaborated with 9 Flintshire Primary Schools over a 12 week period. This project was created and delivered in partnership with New Dance.
